Based on the novel by Alasdair Gray, Poor Things takes place in Victorian London and stars Emma Stone as Bella Baxter, a young woman who dies by suicide and is resurrected by the eccentric scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). In his film review, THR‘s David Rooney writes that Bella “evolves in this subversive twist on Mary Shelley from a Frankenstein experiment with — literally — the mind of an infant into an inquisitive girl with a hunger for sex and adventure, then finally, a fiercely spirited, independent woman.”
Mark Ruffalo and Ramy Youssef also star in the film, which has already won Golden Globes awards for best musical or comedy motion picture and best actress for Stone.
