Comcast-owned European media and telecommunications giant Sky is bringing all of its non-sports content teams in the U.K. and Ireland under one leadership structure, led by Cécile Frot-Coutaz.
Currently CEO of Sky Studios, she will add the chief content officer title, expanding her role to lead all parts of Sky’s content business in the U.K. and Ireland, excluding sports, “with Sky’s U.K. and Ireland content business reporting to her as well as Sky News Group across Europe,” the company said. Frot-Coutaz’s new title will be CEO Sky Studios and chief content officer.
Zai Bennett, managing director of content for Sky U.K. and Ireland, remains responsible for Sky’s output and performance in the countries, “leading Sky Entertainment, Sky Cinema and Sky Kids, along with commissioning for factual, entertainment, arts, kids and film as well as acquisitions across Sky Group,” the company said. “As part of the change, Bennett will report directly to Frot-Coutaz.”
Said Frot-Coutaz: “By bringing Sky’s content teams together into a single structure, we can maximize the benefits of our content business, whilst continuing to invest in original programming across all genres. Across Sky Studios and U.K. and Ireland Content, our teams deliver unmissable Sky originals to viewers in the U.K. and Ireland, across Sky Group and around the world. I am excited to work even more closely with Zai and the wider teams as we further our investment in British and Irish content.”
Added Bennett: “Our exceptional commissioners, production and strategy teams across UK&I Content and Sky Studios already work incredibly closely together, so this is the next logical step. I am looking forward to collaborating further with Cécile and excited that 2024 is set to be a stellar year on screen.”
This year’s Sky original series include Mary & George, starring Julianne Moore and Nicholas Galitzine, The Tattooist of Auschwitz, starring Harvey Keitel and Jonah Hauer-King, and The Day of the Jackal, starring Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch. 2024 will also see the return of the likes of House of The Dragon and Brassic and Sky original documentaries, such as David Attenborough’s Sounds of Nature and Tell Them You Love Me, plus Sky original films, such as Ferrari and Lee.
