Fresh off his award-winning night at the 2024 Oscars, Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy is set to lead a Versace campaign.
The luxury fashion brand has announced the Irish actor will be the first face of the men’s Versace Icons collection. The Versace Icons campaign will be Murphy’s first for the brand and will feature the actor in “key and timeless pieces” from the men’s Icons collection, according to a press release.
“I am thrilled that Cillian is joining the Versace family,” Donatella Versace, the brand’s longstanding creative director, said in a statement. The fashion designer also applauded Murphy’s recent Oscar win and his energy in front of the camera. “He is magnetic and mesmerizing in front of a camera and I loved seeing him bring Versace to life,” she said.
The campaign will not be the first time Murphy has worn Versace. The actor wore the brand during the recent awards season. Most recently, Murphy sported a classic and timeless custom Atelier Versace suit to the Oscars. Versace seemed to be a popular pick as Murphy joined stars such as Margot Robbie, America Ferrera, Regina King and Dwyane Wade in wearing the brand for the big night.
Murphy’s Oscar night ensemble also featured an Oppenheimer-inspired brooch from Hong Kong-based design house Sauvereign. The brooch’s design appeared to allude to Murphy’s role as J. Robert Oppenheimer in the film.
Murphy recently closed out his winning award season for the titular role in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, which earned him the Oscar for best actor. The actor told press backstage that he was thrilled about his win.
“You’ve got to move forward but this has been a huge, huge moment for me,” Murphy told the press room. “The movie is so special to me.”
Murphy wasn’t Oppenheimer’s only winner of the night. The Universal Pictures film, which took home best picture, earned a total of seven awards. Nolan won best director, and Murphy’s co-star Robert Downey Jr. nabbed the best supporting actor award.
Versace plans to launch the Versace Icons campaign on April 3.
