The BBC and Masterpiece PBS have revealed first-look images from Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light, the hotly-anticipated miniseries sequel to the 2015 Emmy-nominated Wolf Hall.
Mark Rylance and Damian Lewis reprise their roles as Thomas Cromwell and King Henry VIII in the adaptation of the book by Hilary Mantel, the final novel in her acclaimed Wolf Hall trilogy. If Wolf Hall was about Cromwell’s rise from humble beginnings to become Henry VII’s chief advisor and one of the most powerful men of his age, The Mirror and the Light traces his final years, when King Henry’s reign is teetering on the edge.
The series’ ensemble cast also includes Kate Phillips as Henry VIII’s third wife Jane Seymour, Lilit Lesser as Princess Mary, Jonathan Pryce as Cardinal Wolsey, Harriet Walter as Lady Margaret Pole, Harry Melling as Thomas Wriothesley, Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Rafe Sadler, Timothy Spall as the Duke of Norfolk, Alex Jennings as Stephen Gardiner and Charlie Rowe as Gregory Cromwell.
Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light reunites the creative team for the 2015 series, which picked up BAFTA and Golden Globe awards and received 8 Emmy nominations. Peter Kosminsky returns to direct the script, adapted from Mantel’s novel by Oscar nominee Peter Straughan (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy). The series is a co-production between Playground and Company Pictures. Lisa Osborne is producing, with Colin Callender and Noëlette Buckley as executive producers for Playground; Peter Kosminsky and Lucy Richer for the BBC, and Susanne Simpson for Masterpiece.
The six-part series has wrapped principle photography and is set to air BBC One and iPlayer in the U.K. later this year and on the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel in the U.S. Banijay Rights is handling worldwide sales.
