Fresh from handing a Grammy to another MC, Mariah Carey has revealed her next move.
Carey, who presented the first trophy during Sunday’s telecast to Miley Cyrus for best pop solo performance, will headline The Celebration of Mimi Live, an exclusive residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM in Las Vegas. Performances are scheduled to run April 12–27.
A release announcing the news cited the residency as “in celebration” of the anniversary of her chart topping The Emancipation of Mimi, but this April will be one year shy of a milestone 20th anniversary for the album, which hit shelves on April 12, 2005. Still, it’s no wonder why Carey would want to toast the occasion early, as that 14-track effort is widely regarded as a comeback album which brought the elusive chanteuse back into familiar territory at the top of the charts. Fueled by the No. 1 single “We Belong Together,” the album debuted at No. 1 and went on to sell more than 10 million copies worldwide.
Per intel from Live Nation, the Las Vegas shows will feature Emancipation of Mimi “fan favorites” as well as other hits from her enviable career. Other singles from the album include “It’s Like That,” “Shake it Off,” “Get Your Number,” “Don’t Forget About Us,” “Fly Like a Bird” and “Say Somethin.’”
The Celebration of Mimi Live follows Carey’s first two residencies at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, #1 to Infinity and The Butterfly Returns. Carey, a New York Times best selling author thanks to The Meaning of Mariah Carey, and Live Nation Las Vegas are donating $1 of every ticket purchased to the Fresh Air Fund’s Camp Mariah. Tickets go on sale to the public on Feb. 10 at 10 a.m. PT.
