Anne Hathaway headlines the unexpected love story at the heart of Prime Video’s The Idea of You in the trailer released Wednesday.
The film, based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Robinne Lee, tells the story of a 40-year-old single mom (Hathaway) who falls for a 24-year-old international pop star played by Nicholas Galitzine.
In the trailer, Hathaway’s Solène takes her 16-year-old daughter to Coachella after her newly ex-husband cancels his plans to chaperone the vacation. At the festival, she meets and begins an unexpected romance with Hayes Campbell (Galitzine), the lead singer of August Moon, the hottest boy band on the planet.
As the two navigate their unorthodox romance, Solène must also learn to juggle her career and her daughter while avoiding the 24-hour news cycle in pursuit of Campbell.
“What about what people will say,” Solène asks Hayes in the trailer.
“I don’t care what they’ll say,” he tells her.
The trailer also features the film’s debut single, “Dance Before We Walk,” played over a montage of the characters’ globe-trotting romance which boasts remote vacations, chartered jets and massive concerts. The song also became available via streaming platforms on Wednesday.
The Idea of You is directed by Michael Showalter from a script Showalter wrote with Jennifer Westfeldt. It will close the 2024 SXSW Film & TV Festival on March 16. Road House will open the festival, which also featured the Ryan Gosling action comedy The Fall Guy and Netflix series 3 Body Problem.
The Idea of You is set for a streaming release on Prime Video on May 2.
