“All you country boys, saying you know to treat a woman right. Well, only a woman knows how to treat a woman right. She gets the job done,” pop superstar Chappell Roan sang on stage during her November Saturday Night Live set.
The 27-year-old Grammy winner for best new artist, in head-to-toe pink cowgirl garb, performed her then-unreleased new track, “The Giver.” Now, four months later, Roan has released the country-pop anthem after an extensive promotional rollout.
Last month, the “Pink Pony Club” singer posted a photo of herself in a suit to Instagram with the caption: “The Lawyer. Ur ex’s worst nightmare + she gets the job DONE.” She then went on to post several more as a lawyer, along with photos of herself as a plumber, a construction worker and a dentist, all with the same theme of her taking on a service worker gig and getting the job done. Each character Roan takes on in her promotional material has its own vinyl; she’s selling five vinyl single variations total.
Roan and Co. also put up billboards in several cities, including Nashville, New York and Los Angeles. The billboards featured Roan’s different personas and featured a phone hotline (620-HOT-TO-GO), which led to a selection of previews of “The Giver,” according to a release.

“The Giver” is a classic country-pop track infused with quippy sapphic double entendres. While different from Roan’s previous releases, the world of country seems to be one she knows well. “[It] was so fun to write [‘The Giver’]. I got to bring what I knew to the table because I’m a country girl,” Roan said days after her SNL performance at a Grammy Museum event.
“I have such a special place in my heart for country music. I grew up listening to it every morning and afternoon on my school bus and had it swirling around me at bonfires, grocery stores and karaoke bars,” the singer said in a release Thursday night.
The country single is Roan’s first since her meteoric rise to pop superstar status. Her last release, another single, was “Good Luck, Babe!” which was released in April 2024 right before her Coachella appearance. While it’s unclear what songs will make the singer’s next studio album — she also performed an unreleased track, “The Subway,” at festivals last year — Roan says her next album is not going to be entirely country.
“Right now I’m just making songs that make me feel happy and fun,” Roan said in a release. “‘The Giver’ is my take on cuntry xoxo may the classic country divas lead their genre, I am just here to twirl and do a little gay yodel for y’all.”
