Oliver Putnam is set to follow in Sazz Pataki‘s footsteps as the next mayor of Funner, California.
Only Murders in the Building star Martin Short is the newest funny person set to be inaugurated as the small town’s mayor for the next two years. Past officials include Rob Riggle, David Hasselhoff and Jane Lynch, his co-star in the Hulu series.
“As the mayor-elect of Funner, I promise to be more than just a spokesperson dressed in purple from head-to-toe, but instead, the best mayor in the whole darn state,” he said in a statement. “It’s my goal to make every part of the already fun Harrah’s Resort SoCal even Funner, and I can’t wait to share my plans with all of my constituents in just six short weeks.”
The small town, home to the massive resort, was officially named Funner by the Rincon Tribe in August 2016 and is committed to promoting the most fun possible in every business within the city limits.
As a part of Funner’s governing body, Short will work with the city council — led by Harrah’s Resort SoCal’s senior vice president and general manager Jill Barrett — to elevate the fun as the city’s fourth mayor.
Short will be inaugurated on May 13 when he is given the key to Funner and announces his upcoming plans for the city. He also must take an oath, in which he promises “to protect fun, good times, laughing out loud and positive vibes from the negative influences determined to turn a smile upside down.”
