The Barbie marketing machine marches on. Despite the $1.4 billion blockbuster‘s hundreds of fashion, beauty and decor collaborations, and the whirlwind pink-powered press tour followed by designer devotees, there’s somehow still more to see from Greta Gerwig’s Golden Globes–winning film.

Barbie star and producer Margot Robbie and her stylist, Andrew Mukamal, dreamed up countless Mattel doll-inspired looks that didn’t make it to the pink carpets when the press tour was cut short by the writers and actors strikes. Those outfits and more will appear in a new book, Barbie: The World Tour, to be released by Rizzoli on March 19. (The film itself is streaming on Max.)

The 160-page tome ($55) will showcase images of Robbie channeling Barbie shot by prominent fashion photographer Craig McDean. Barbie: The World Tour will also inclue rare images from Mattel’s archives, designer sketches, Polaroid photos and more from Barbie’s whimsical world, all presented in collages by art director Fabien Baron. Robbie and Mukamal also contribute their own words to the book.

“This book is the culmination of tens of thousands of hours of work by some of the most talented and creative visionaries and designers on Earth,” Mukamal says in a statement. “Margot and I felt compelled to share this with the world. We hope you love it as much as we do.”

Robbie and Mukamal worked closely with Chanel, Donatella Versace, Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing, former Moschino creative director Jeremy Scott and many more luxury houses and designers to recreate Barbie’s vintage looks with high-fashion flair.

Pulling inspiration from archive dolls, they aced the assignment indeed. From a black-and-white striped Hervé Legér bandage dress with white cat-eye sunglasses (a spitting image of the original 1959 Barbie) worn in Sydney and “Day to Night” 1985 Barbie-inspired looks by Versace in Seoul, to the pink polka dot Valentino mini dress (inspired by a 2015 “Pink & Fabulous” Barbie) and the sparkling Schiaparelli tulle-hemmed black gown from the movie’s LA premiere, the Barbie press tour looks helped fuel Barbiecore pink’s global fashion takeover.

They’ll all appear in Rizzoli’s forthcoming book, which is available for pre-order at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Bookshop and other brick-and-mortar and online booksellers.

Directed by Greta Gerwig, Barbie stars Robbie as the iconic Mattel doll and Ryan Gosling as Ken as they step out of Barbie Land and into the real world. It also features Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Hari Nef, Dua Lipa, Ritu Arya, Michael Cera and Emerald Fennell as Mattel dolls in the flesh and America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt and Will Ferrell as humans, with Helen Mirren serving as narrator.

The film won Golden Globes Awards for cinematic and box office achievement and best motion picture original song for “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish and Finneas. It was nominated for a total of nine Golden Globes awards in the best comedy or musical category, including for best feature, best actress (Robbie), best supporting actor (Gosling), best motion picture director (Gerwig), best motion picture screenplay (Gerwig, Noah Baumbach) and best motion picture original song (“Dance the Night” by Mark Ronson, Andrew Wyatt, Dua Lipa, Caroline Ailin; “I’m Just Ken” by Mark Ronson, Andrew Wyatt).

The fashion world instantly embraced Barbiecore long before the movie’s July 2023 premiere, with designers including Valentino creating bold pink looks for its Fall/Winter 2022 Pink PP collection. During the Barbie press tour in Los Angeles, Sydney, Seoul, Mexico City and London, Gerwig and her stars sported their best beyond-Barbie Land looks on the pink carpet. On set, Robbie enacted a weekly “pink day” where she would collect fines (which were donated to charity) from those who failed to wear something in the film’s signature color.
