‘True Detective’ Is Back for Season Four: Here’s Where to Watch It Online

The third season of True Detective, which starred Mahershala Ali, Carmen Ejogo, Stephen Dorff and Scoot McNairy, premiered pre-pandemic in 2019, and the crime anthology series has been on hiatus ever since — until now. True Detective is back for season four, premiering on Sunday, Jan. 14.

True Detective‘s fourth season, which now has the subtitle Night Country, will be available to stream on Max at the same time as it airs on HBO on TV.

The channel is also available as an add-on at Amazon’s Prime Video, while those with subscriptions to live TV streaming services such as DirecTV Stream (which offers a two-month free trial to Max) and Hulu can also add Max to their package for an extra $15.99 per month, in addition to base plan fees.

Where to Watch True Detective: Night Country Without Cable

Episodes of True Detective season four will be ready to stream on Max every Sunday at 9 p.m. PT/ET until the season finale on Feb. 25. For those who already have an existing live TV streaming service subscription, Max is available as an add-on channel starting at $9.99 per month (in addition to base plan fees) through Prime Video, DirecTV Stream and Hulu, to name a few.

Watch True Detective: Night Country with a subscription to Max, which starts at $9.99 per month for the ad-supported plan. You can go ad-free for $15.99 per month, or go 4K with the Ultimate plan at $19.99 per month.

DirecTV Stream

DirecTV Stream lets you watch more than 75 other channels under its Entertainment package ($69.99 monthly), including BET, MTV and more; add Max to your plan and get your first two months for free for a limited time. After that, the channel auto-renews for $15.99 per month.

Max is also available as an add-on channel on Amazon Prime Video. Prime members and new subscribers can get get Max starting at $9.99 per month on Prime Video ($8.99 per month for the standalone service).

From author and screenwriter Nic Pizzolatto, True Detective: Night Country is set in Ennis, an Alaskan small town plunged in 24 hours of darkness for several weeks out of the year. However, when a group of scientists at a remote research facility mysteriously go missing Detective Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Detective Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) are on the case to find them.

The new season also stars Finn Bennett, Fiona Shaw, Christopher Eccleston, Isabella Star LaBlanc, John Hawkes and others.
